

The was the site of an ancient Greek temple. The temple now resides in the Pergamum Museum in Berlin.

The Asclepion of Pergamum was were Galen, the first physcian, treated patients. It was the first hospital. Notice the snake symbol on this column. Aesculapius was the god of medicine and the snake was his symbol. The idea was that patients could shed their illnesses the way a snake shed their skins.

Hendrich Schliemann's fameous trench that revealed nine ancient cities, one on top of another, dating back to 3000 B.C.

Not far from here Schliemann found his Gold of Troy. That gold is now in St. Peterberg, Berlin, Athens, and Istanbul.

Galipoli where the flower of Australian youth was lost in 1915 in World War I.. In the background are the Dardanelles. Today, this area is a National Park and is taken care of out of respect for the dead.
